Viral Altcoin Surges 80% in a Day as Bitcoin Climbs to $64K: Market Watch

Likely spurred by President Trump’s recent comments hinting at a potential US-Iran peace deal expected to be announced within days, Bitcoin briefly jumped from about $62,000 to over $64,000 earlier today before sellers pushed it back down.

Most large-cap altcoins remained relatively muted on the day, with the notable exception of HYPE, which reclaimed the $60 support after a roughly 3% gain.

Bitcoin Eyes $64K

Last week was one of the most turbulent periods in Bitcoin’s recent history. The market opened the week near $73,000, but bearish momentum quickly took hold and drove prices below $70,000. Key support levels gave way in succession, and BTC fell through $68,000, $65,000, and even $62,000 as the week progressed.

Attention turned to the $60,000 area, a level that had held during the February sell-off. Bulls initially defended that line on Thursday and again on Friday morning, but selling pressure intensified on Friday afternoon and the support finally broke.

Bitcoin plunged to $59,100 — its lowest point in almost two years — before staging a fast recovery that reclaimed the $60,000 level by the end of the day. Over the weekend BTC climbed back to $61,000 on Saturday and about $62,000 on Sunday. The past 12 hours brought renewed volatility amid fresh developments on the geopolitical front, sending BTC as high as $64,200 before it was halted and pushed downward.

Bitcoin’s market capitalization is now approximately $1.265 trillion, and its dominance over altcoins has risen to 56.3% on CoinGecko.

Other notable gainers include SIREN, up about 32%, NEAR with a 13% rise, and DeXe, which posted an 11% increase.

Large-cap altcoins were far less volatile. Ethereum traded near $1,660 after a roughly 1.5% gain. BNB remained close to $600, while Solana held above $66. HYPE climbed about 3% and remains well above $60, and Zcash continued its recovery with a 6% bounce to around $425.

The total cryptocurrency market capitalization added roughly $20 billion on the day, bringing the aggregate market to about $2.26 trillion on CoinGecko.
