TON Blockchain Experiences Another Network Outage, What Happened?

  • The TON blockchain experienced another period of network downtime, less than 24 hours after a prolonged outage.
  • TON says the primary cause was congestion resulting from the DOGS token airdrop.

The Open Network (TON) blockchain suffered a further disruption in block production.

Reports of the outage arrived less than 24 hours after TON resumed service following more than six hours of downtime. On Wednesday, TON announced that the network overload had been resolved and that the blockchain connected to Telegram was “back online.”

Despite that update, the network stopped processing transactions and the platform provided a fresh status report.

“Block production on TON is experiencing a disruption starting at 19:19 UTC,” TON wrote on X.

“This appears to be due to heavy load attributed to DOGS token minting. TON Core is working on a solution.” The update also stated that user funds “were not at risk.”

TON also attributed Tuesday’s downtime to congestion caused by the DOGS airdrop.

Several major exchanges supported the airdrop, and platforms including Binance and Bybit delayed distributions because of the network issues.

Network activity also surged amid separate developments involving Telegram founder Pavel Durov.

Durov was detained in France on Saturday evening and remained in police custody for 96 hours. Authorities later released him from custody and took him to court for a hearing on August 28.

The combination of TON network disruptions and Durov’s arrest weighed on the native token, Toncoin (TON).

After a brief recovery above $5.75, TON fell back below $5.50. Although it recovered some ground since Saturday, Toncoin is down roughly 18% over the past week.
