  • The creator of Bitcoin (BTC), Satoshi Nakamoto, remains a mystery despite a recent HBO documentary.

Tether and the city of Lugano have unveiled a life-size statue of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. According to an announcement on October 25, the unveiling took place during the third annual Plan ₿ forum in Lugano.

Plan ₿ is a joint initiative between USDT issuer Tether and the city of Lugano aimed at promoting Bitcoin adoption and blockchain technology across the city.

The Satoshi Nakamoto statue is installed in Villa Ciani in Lugano and is intended to evoke both the mystery and the innovation of Bitcoin’s creator, according to Tether’s press release. The work honors Satoshi’s vision and legacy.

The design emphasizes Satoshi’s anonymity with a visual effect that allows the statue to gradually fade from view as the observer’s perspective changes. This approach symbolizes “Satoshi’s withdrawal from the public eye.”

“The Satoshi Nakamoto statue is a testament to Bitcoin’s revolutionary impact and to the idea of decentralization. Satoshi’s decision to step aside and let the community take the lead reflects the true essence of decentralization,” said Paolo Ardoino, Chief Executive Officer of Tether.

Michele Foletti, Mayor of Lugano, said the statue does more than commemorate Satoshi’s legacy.

“Lugano is rapidly becoming a leading hub for digital innovation, and this statue honors Satoshi Nakamoto while embodying the pioneering spirit that drives our city,” Foletti said.

The unveiling of the disappearing statue comes weeks after an HBO documentary suggested it had identified Bitcoin’s creator.

However, the individual the documentary appears to have pointed to has publicly denied being Satoshi. Peter Todd, an early Bitcoin developer and cryptographer, has denied the claim and said the documentary has forced him into hiding for safety reasons.
