Sony Block Solutions Labs, the innovation division behind the recently launched Soneium blockchain, has announced a strategic partnership with Transak, a leading provider of Web3 payment infrastructure.
The collaboration seeks to simplify onboarding for mainstream users to the Soneium blockchain — an Ethereum Layer 2 network — by enabling familiar fiat payment options.
Empowering players and developers
The partnership is poised to make a meaningful impact on the gaming industry, a sector already accustomed to in-game digital assets and currencies.
By integrating Transak’s payment solutions, players will be able to buy, transfer, and trade in-game assets and NFTs using fiat currencies. This seamless payment experience is expected to broaden blockchain usage within gaming communities and create new revenue opportunities for both developers and players.
In the announcement, Transak co-founder and CEO Sami Start emphasized the partnership’s significance, noting that it highlights the company’s commitment “to bridge Web2 and Web3” and to empower industries like gaming and entertainment with innovative solutions that improve user experience and drive digital transformation.
A step toward wider Soneium adoption
Soneium, developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, is built on the OP Stack and designed to support consumer-facing applications.
The network is a joint venture between Sony Group Corporation and Startale Labs and has attracted early experimentation and collaboration from projects such as Circle, Optimism, Alchemy, The Graph, Chainlink, and Astar Network. Sota Watanabe, director of Sony Block Solutions Labs, highlighted the partnership’s potential, saying Transak’s tailored solutions across industries will enable developers to build pioneering projects on Soneium.
With Transak’s reach across more than 160 countries and support for over 350 applications, the partnership is positioned to bridge traditional finance and blockchain, expanding possibilities for innovation in the gaming and entertainment industries.
