Regulators Haven’t Contacted Crypto.com After Hack

Crypto.com experienced a cyberattack a few days ago, but the company says regulators have not reached out yet.

Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek disclosed that regulatory authorities have not contacted the company since it suffered a cybersecurity breach earlier this week that affected around 400 customer accounts.

Marszalek said Crypto.com is prepared to share details about the incident if the relevant regulators get in touch. He added:

“Obviously this is a big lesson, and we are continuously strengthening our infrastructure. Given the scale of the business, these figures are not particularly significant and customer funds were not at risk.”

Crypto.com is the latest cryptocurrency exchange to report a hack. Earlier this week, hundreds of platform customers reported that their ETH and other cryptocurrencies were drained following a security breach.

At this time, the exact amount taken from the affected accounts remains unclear. Crypto.com stated it will disclose exact figures and any additional relevant information once its investigation is complete.

Last year, Crypto.com relocated its headquarters from Hong Kong to Singapore and is currently awaiting licensing approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

The Singapore regulator recently restricted public advertising of crypto products. Still, the Crypto.com CEO said the Singapore government is supportive of blockchain technology and the broader cryptocurrency industry. He commented:

“Singapore is very supportive of blockchain technology and the cryptocurrency industry in general. It’s a great place for industry participants, and there are a fairly large number of players there.”

In recent months, Crypto.com has pursued high-profile sports partnerships. The exchange acquired naming rights to the Los Angeles venue formerly known as the Staples Center, which is now called Crypto.com Arena.

The exchange has also formed partnerships with organizations such as Paris Saint-Germain, Football Australia, and several others.
