In an effort to support the people of Ukraine, NFT digital rights management platform RAIRtech has unveiled a generative NFT collection inspired by Glitch art titled #UkraineGlitch, CoinJournal reports from a press release.
Ukrainian flag under pressure
The project depicts a distressed Ukrainian flag with pixelated “bullet holes” of yellow and blue scattered across the background to symbolize a flag under duress. Proceeds from the collection are expected to raise nearly $1.3 million to supply medical aid to Ukrainians in need.
Funds split between UACC and Web3 developer fund
All funds from the generative NFT release will be shared between the Ukrainian American Coordinating Council (UACC) and a Web3 Developers Fund that benefits Ukrainian Web3 developers working in the country.
The limited series of 1,991 NFTs references the year Ukrainians voted for independence in a nationwide referendum. The collection runs on the Ethereum mainnet, with each piece priced at 0.1991 ETH (approximately $600 USD at the time of release).
Masha Mitkov, Fullstack Project Manager at RAIRtech, said:
Creating these pieces stirred strong emotions — at times I found myself in tears on the floor. What might seem like impersonal images built from boxes and randomness became a map for an energetic transposition from negative to positive. Iterating on the algorithm eventually achieved the perfect balance between chaos and contained symbolism.
My family emigrated from Ukraine to the United States as refugees in the early ’90s. When the conflict in Crimea began in 2014, my father organized direct distribution of high-quality medical supplies to Ukrainian militias. Since his passing in November 2020, and with the escalation of the new war in 2022, people have sought renewed access to these supplies.
Now the Ukrainian Coordinating Council and others have continued what my father started. I realize I have a unique position to connect those who need help with those who want to provide it.
Animated flag transformation
With each purchase of a UkraineGlitch piece, the number of pixels toggling from yellow to blue increases, ultimately reversing the flag’s appearance. Some pieces include animated elements to reflect parts of this transformation, while others remain static. Only UkraineGlitch NFT holders can view the full animation of the flag’s transformation on the project’s launch page.
Ed Prado, CEO of RAIRtech, commented:
RAIRtech has long enjoyed collaborating with skilled Ukrainian Web3 developers. We partnered with several companies and developers to build the user interface and backend systems. Since the conflict began, we found that sending crypto was one of the most effective ways to support our Ukrainian friends. We now want to expand and formalize this support — that’s where UkraineGlitch comes in.
