The attic and roof of Notre-Dame de Paris caught fire on April 15, 2019, devastating large portions of the iconic cathedral. Within a few hours the blaze consumed the spire, which collapsed and destroyed a powerful symbol of the city of Paris. The disaster moved people around the world, prompting donations to finance the cathedral’s restoration. Binance raised more than $60,000 for Notre-Dame through its charitable arm, Binance Charity.
Since April 17, 2019, Binance Charity has been collecting donations to contribute to the restoration of parts of the building and its artworks. To date, Binance Charity has received 77 donations for this project in several cryptocurrencies: BTC, ETH and BNB. At the time of writing, the total equals 3.2070 BTC, approximately 62,257.22 USD.
“At Binance Charity, we believe in transparency in philanthropy, and it is important that donors can see how their funds are used to directly benefit recipients,” explains Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity.
The Association Les Amis de Notre-Dame de Paris, which will receive Binance Charity’s funds, also accepts donations in multiple cryptocurrencies directly on its website. It is therefore possible to make a crypto-donation in the following digital currencies: BTC, ETH, AMP, BAT, BCH, LINK, DAI, GUSD, LTC, STORJ, ZEC and ZRX.
The blockchain’s unique features provide transparency for all transactions associated with crypto-donations because the process is immutable. For this reason, more and more organizations are offering the option to donate with cryptocurrencies. Notable examples include UNICEF, SOS Children’s Villages and Samu Social de Paris.
Binance Charity is a Binance entity that supports participation in a wide range of charitable initiatives that collect funds.
