MicroStrategy Adds $101M in Bitcoin — Holdings Now 447,470 BTC

MicroStrategy has increased its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings with a new purchase of 1,070 BTC worth approximately $101 million.

The company disclosed the latest acquisition on Monday, January 6, stating the purchase averaged $94,004 per bitcoin. The acquisition occurred between December 30, 2024 and January 5, 2025, the business intelligence firm said. MicroStrategy completed the purchase after finalizing the sale of 319,586 shares.

Following this transaction, MicroStrategy retains $6.77 billion in available shares — part of a targeted $21 billion in equity and $21 billion of fixed income securities — to fund additional Bitcoin purchases.

MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin Strategy

Bitcoin’s price has risen over the past week, buoyed by bullish sentiment ahead of the presidential inauguration. To date, MicroStrategy has accumulated a striking 447,470 BTC with aggregate purchases totaling about $27.97 billion. At current market prices, the company’s BTC holdings are worth more than $44 billion.

As the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, MicroStrategy has inspired several other publicly traded companies to adopt BTC treasury strategies. This trend includes firms listed in the U.S., Hong Kong, and Canada. Notably, MicroStrategy purchased its Bitcoin at an average price of $62,503 per BTC.

One such company, KULR Technology Group — a thermal management and battery safety platform — also announced on January 6 that it bought an additional $21 million in BTC, bringing its total Bitcoin purchases to $42 million.

KULR, which began its Bitcoin treasury strategy in early December 2024, acquired the latest BTC tranche at an average price of $98,393.58 per coin. At the time of writing, Bitcoin traded around $99,194, up about 1.5% over the past 24 hours and nearly 6% over the previous week.
