Messi’s fans from around the world now have the chance to invest in this collection through Ethernity’s “Messiverse” project
Football superstar Lionel Messi has joined the non-fungible token (NFT) space by unveiling his very first NFT collection. The Barcelona and Argentina legend is making his debut in partnership with Ethernity, a blockchain platform that provides access to limited-edition, officially licensed NFTs.
The NFTs were created by Bosslogic, a leading Australian artist who has previously collaborated with Marvel on the blockbuster Avengers franchise.
“I’ve been working on this for a while, and I’m very honored to work with Ethernity Chain and Messi on his first official drop,” the artist said.
According to the Australian artist, the collection focuses on the football icon and celebrates Messi’s achievements and most memorable moments, while also nodding to future triumphs. Bosslogic produced three standout Messi NFT collectibles.
“Man from the Future” is the first of the three NFTs. It features an iconic, AI-bionic version of Messi, imagining the player competing in a cyber football arena.
“Worth the Weight” is the second collectible. It depicts Messi as Atlas, the well-known figure from Greek mythology who is said to have carried the world on his shoulders. The artist explains that this image symbolizes Messi’s ability to inspire his teams to unprecedented victories over the years.
The final piece in the initial drop is “The King Piece” NFT. This artwork presents Messi as the king of the pitch—relentless and decisive in securing matches for his teams. It also shows the Argentine lifting a Ballon d’Or trophy, one of the record six he has won during his illustrious career, a feat that often earns him recognition as the greatest of all time.
The three NFTs were scheduled to launch on August 20, 2021, on the Ethernity website, with an additional fourth NFT planned for release later in the month.
NFTs have seen a dramatic surge in interest since last year, with high-profile drops from celebrities, mainstream media, and iconic artists achieving notable success and driving wider public attention.
Canadian e-commerce giant Shopify recently announced that merchants can now sell NFTs directly through their storefronts, a move that could further boost interest and activity in the NFT sector.
