It is clear that the CEO of Binance ranks among the richest executives in the industry. His wealth is once again highlighted by the Hurun Global Rich List.
List summarizes top crypto earners for 2020
Gossip and controversy are also compelling topics in the cryptocurrency world. The community follows such “events” closely, especially when disputes arise between industry leaders or when contentious figures like Craig Wright make headlines. Wright recently announced a lawsuit against Bitcoin, claiming the coin is his intellectual property. In the present case the question is: how wealthy is Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of the crypto exchange Binance, as a result of his company’s success and market growth? “CZ,” as the exchange’s CEO is commonly called, appears amused by the results of the analysis for the “Hurun Global Rich List 2020.”
Has a Bitmain co-founder finally been displaced by CZ?
The cited list names the Binance chief as currently the wealthiest person in the world when it comes to assets in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The analysis estimates the exchange CEO’s wealth at approximately $2.6 billion. If these figures are accurate, CZ would have overtaken the previous leader. Until now, Micree Ketuan Zhan, a founder of the bitcoin and crypto mining company Bitmain, had been regarded as the top crypto billionaire. That crypto pioneer held the number one position on the list for the past two years. However, he reportedly lost more than $1 billion after his tenure as Bitmain’s executive director ended. He still retains second place on the list. CZ tweeted that checking his own wallet cannot reliably confirm the ranking’s figures.
Large gap between statistics and reality
According to CZ, his digital wallet balance lacks several “zeros” compared with the ranking’s estimate. He also said he is content with a fraction of the reported wealth. Analyses like the Hurun Global Rich List 2020 amuse him more than anything. What matters to him is that his preferred crypto assets, such as Binance’s native token the Binance Coin, appreciate in value alongside the Binance exchange — a point he has made in several recent interviews. Nevertheless, such rankings are interesting. Unsurprisingly, the list includes many exchange CEOs, and Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen is listed with roughly $1.3 billion in digital currency holdings and blockchain-related investments.
