Fidelity Investments launches Sherlock, a digital asset analytics platform for institutional crypto investors
Fidelity Investments has introduced SherlockSM, a digital asset data and analytics platform built to support institutional investors operating in the cryptocurrency market. The new tool aggregates on-chain data, development activity, market metrics, and social signals into a single environment to help professionals evaluate digital assets and test investment strategies.
Sherlock allows users to query blockchain activity, monitor developer ecosystems, track market behavior, and analyze sentiment from social media. By combining these data sources, institutional teams can build models, run back-tests, and derive actionable insights without stitching together information from multiple disparate feeds.
Kevin Vora, Vice President at the Fidelity Center for Applied Technology (FCAT), said the rapid expansion of the crypto sector and growing institutional interest prompted the development of the platform. “That’s what we’re introducing with Sherlock — robust and insightful datasets paired with highly intuitive tools to help clients make data-driven digital asset investment decisions,” Vora explained.
Designed with an intuitive user experience, Sherlock gives portfolio managers, analysts, and trading desks tools to perform in-depth analysis, surface meaningful signals, and monitor critical market developments. The platform aims to reduce the operational friction that often accompanies crypto research by centralizing data, visualizations, and testing functionality within a single workflow.
Kinjal Shah, Senior Associate at Blockchain Capital LLC, noted the platform addresses a common pain point for crypto investors. “A major challenge when researching the crypto markets today is piecing together information from a myriad of resources. Sherlock helps us research more efficiently by giving us access to holistic, timely data, which is crucial in this fast-paced market,” Shah said.
Fidelity has been active in the digital asset space for several years. A 2019 company survey found that nearly half of institutional respondents were interested in adding digital assets to their portfolios, a trend that helped drive Fidelity’s expansion of crypto services. Fidelity Digital Assets, the firm’s crypto investment arm, provides custody and trading services for institutional clients and has pursued broader participation in the market.
In addition to custody and trading services, Fidelity affiliates are involved in the development of investment products tied to cryptocurrencies. FD Funds Management, a Fidelity Investments subsidiary, has been associated with efforts to sponsor a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States, demonstrating the firm’s ongoing commitment to building infrastructure and investment options for institutional digital asset investors.
