Feb 22 Market Highlights: Krypton Plummets as War Fears Trigger Sell-Off

The largest cryptocurrencies were hit by developments along the Russia-Ukraine border. European stocks fell sharply yesterday as the prospect of conflict between Russia and Ukraine became more real.

Every single company in the EUSTX50 (-2.62%), an index of the 50 largest firms in the eurozone, closed lower yesterday.

Top Cryptocurrencies

Avalanche and Cardano plunged more than 14%, XRP fell over 13%, Solana dropped 12%, BNB declined 9% and Ethereum was down 8%.

Bitcoin traded below $37,000 at the time of writing, a decline of more than 6% over the past 24 hours. Cosmos moved into the top 20 by market rank.

Biggest Movers

The top 100 list also showed widespread losses. It was a particularly poor day for metaverse tokens. Decentraland lost nearly 13%, while Fantom, Stacks, Neo and Oasis Network each fell about 14%, and Axie Infinity declined by 12%.

Tezos and Gala also slid around 14%. Harmony and Quant each dropped 16%, wiping out recent gains. The largest loser among the top 100 was Theta Fuel, down 19% — nearly one-fifth of its value.

The only token in the green at the time of writing was Anchor Protocol, which rose about 5%.

OBROK is the native token of the OBRok Project, a team focused on aerospace and space engineering. The project aims to address rising costs for launching satellites and electronic payloads into orbit. OBROK surged 643% today.

ALPINE, the token tied to the Alpine F1 Team Fan community, trades around $7 with a 24-hour volume of $656.3 million. It climbed nearly a third in value after Alpine revealed the A522, its blue-and-pink challenger for the 2022 season.

Lido, a liquid staking solution for Ethereum, posted one of the day’s biggest gains, rising about 16% at the time of writing.
