Chainlink recently announced it will support the development of Ethereum infrastructure projects
The oracle network for smart contracts is the latest protocol to declare its support for the Ethereum ecosystem. Chainlink published a statement confirming the news on its website.
“We remain committed to the continued growth of the Ethereum ecosystem. That is why we are participating as an aligned partner in Gitcoin Grants Round 8 to help fund community-selected projects that improve Ethereum infrastructure.”
In the past, the two protocols have not always seen eye to eye. Some time ago Chainlink claimed its network could address many of the issues encountered on the Ethereum blockchain, and users from both communities have frequently compared the platforms.
One community member replied to Chainlink’s announcement tweet, suggesting the relationship could change now that they are cooperating.
“Hopefully this will put the irrational $ETH vs. $LINK debates to rest. It’s clear the crypto market needs both projects to support each other and thrive.”
This is not the first time Chainlink has committed support to teams building next-generation infrastructure. The decentralized network has previously funded many developers and groups through hackathons, Gitcoin funding rounds, and bug bounty programs. In other cases, Chainlink’s backing has been indirect—supporting other blockchains and the broader ecosystem via its Community Grant program.
The announcement elaborated on Chainlink’s confidence in the initiative.
“We believe Gitcoin’s quadratic funding model provides a fair and decentralized way to ensure everyone in the Ethereum community has a voice, funding projects regardless of how much a single donor contributes. We will match individual donor contributions for popular projects by allocating additional funds to Gitcoin Grants Round 8.”
Ethereum Grants Round 8 opens Wednesday and runs through December 18. Chainlink will join Binance, which earlier committed to the program. The leading global crypto exchange pledged $100,000 to the grant round.
