BitFlyer, the world’s largest Bitcoin exchange platform, has announced major news that could transform the cryptocurrency landscape in Europe. The company plans to open a Bitcoin exchange office in Luxembourg — a first for the continent.
The world’s leading exchange platform
Founded in Japan in 2014, BitFlyer quickly established itself as a benchmark in the digital currency world. In 2017 the platform processed roughly $250 billion in cryptocurrency transactions and today controls an estimated 20–30% of the international Bitcoin exchange market. Now BitFlyer is expanding into Europe. Initially the new Luxembourg office will serve professional clients conducting very large Bitcoin transactions, with plans to extend services to other cryptocurrencies such as Litecoin and Ethereum.

The launch in Luxembourg marks a significant milestone for Europe. Yuza Kano, BitFlyer’s CEO, expressed pride in the company’s progress, stating, “I am proud that we are now the virtual currency exchange platform most compliant with regulations worldwide; this sought-after regulatory status gives our customers, our company and the virtual currency industry as a whole a very positive outlook for the future.”
Growing international interest
BitFlyer is not the only organization eyeing the cryptocurrency exchange market. Recently, reports indicated that Amazon has registered three domain names related to digital currencies. According to CNBC, the e-commerce giant secured amazonethereum.com, amazoncryptocurrency.com and amazoncryptocurrencies.com. While there is no confirmation that Amazon intends to accept cryptocurrency payments on its e-commerce platform, these domain registrations could represent an early step toward building a digital currency exchange.

For now, BitFlyer remains the world’s largest Bitcoin exchange and its expansion to Luxembourg is welcome news for European investors and professional traders. The move underscores growing institutional interest in regulated crypto services and signals further development of the European crypto market.
