Aave’s price has been firmly bearish over the past few months.

Rising U.S. interest rates are creating headwinds for the protocol.

Traditional cash instruments such as money market funds and certificates of deposit now offer more attractive yields than many Aave deposits.
AAVE price has underperformed broader crypto markets as concerns grow over the DeFi protocol’s attractiveness in a higher interest rate environment. The token fell to around $55 on Monday, roughly 42% below its peak earlier this year.
Higher interest rates
Aave is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol that lets users earn interest by supplying assets to its liquidity pools. Those supplied assets are then loaned out to other users seeking crypto-backed loans.
Aave ranks as the second-largest DeFi protocol by total value locked (TVL), with more than $7.2 billion in TVL. Only Lido DAO, with over $14 billion, remains larger.
A major challenge for Aave and other lending protocols is that cash and cash-like instruments now offer comparatively better returns. For example, many U.S. money market funds are yielding in excess of 5%.
By comparison, deposit APRs on Aave for common assets are lower than current U.S. cash yields: the WETH deposit APR is about 2.26%, while stablecoins such as USDC, USDT, and DAI offer roughly 2.81%, 4.45%, and 2.79%, respectively.
Because short-term dollar-denominated instruments are yielding more, some investors—especially in the United States—are reallocating from crypto into traditional dollar assets. That rotation has helped push the U.S. dollar index (DXY) above 104.
The outlook for Aave is further complicated by the prospect that rates may stay elevated for an extended period, since inflation remains well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target.
Aave price outlook
On the daily chart, AAVE has been in a prolonged downtrend. The token has moved below a descending trendline and is trading just above a key support level around $49.90, which was the low reached on both January 2 and June 14.
Given the prevailing momentum, there is a meaningful risk of a bearish breakdown in the coming weeks. A decisive move below the $49.89 support would likely confirm that downside scenario and could open the path toward roughly $40.
How to buy AAVE
To acquire AAVE, investors typically use centralized or decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges that list the token. Before purchasing, ensure you choose a reputable platform, verify fees, confirm supported payment methods, and secure your holdings using a suitable wallet. Consider your risk tolerance and perform due diligence before investing in DeFi tokens, which can be sensitive to macroeconomic shifts and liquidity conditions.
