MicroStrategy, the largest publicly traded holder of Bitcoin (BTC), has announced another acquisition of the flagship digital asset. The company, known for its ongoing Bitcoin purchases, disclosed its latest buy on December 30.
MicroStrategy Buys More BTC
In the announcement, MicroStrategy revealed this was its eighth straight week of BTC purchases, acquiring 2,138 bitcoins for approximately $209 million. The funds for the purchase came from the company’s cash reserves, which currently exceed $6.88 billion.

MicroStrategy founder and CEO Michael Saylor published the company’s BTC tracker on December 29, which fueled speculation about the subsequent purchase.
For this latest acquisition, MicroStrategy paid roughly $97,837 per bitcoin. With this buy, the company has further solidified its position as the largest public corporate holder of Bitcoin.
MicroStrategy now holds 446,400 BTC, acquired for about $27.9 billion at an average purchase price of $62,428 per bitcoin. Overall, the company reports a BTC yield of 47.8% for the quarter-to-date and 74.1% year-to-date. Despite the purchase, Bitcoin’s price remained negative on both daily and weekly timeframes, trading near $93,114 at the time of writing.
According to CoinMarketCap, BTC fell 1.8% over the past 24 hours and 2.6% over the last week. Meanwhile, MicroStrategy’s stock, which surged after the company joined the Nasdaq 100, fell 13.3% in premarket trading. MSTR closed at $330 on December 27 and was trading around $319 at 8:30 a.m. ET on December 30.
