Podcast: Crypto Founder Corey Wilton Shares His Mirai Labs Journey

I had a fascinating guest on the CoinJournal podcast this week.

Corey Wilton is a serial entrepreneur from the Gold Coast, Australia. He didn’t get into university, yet today he leads Mirai Labs, a metaverse company based in Vietnam with a team of 75. Corey shared a candid account of his journey and some memorable stories from the recent crypto frenzy.

Honesty can be rare in crypto, but Corey is refreshingly direct. He discussed the industry’s darker aspects—the pump-and-dump schemes, scams, and many recurring problems—while also owning his own mistakes and the challenges he’s faced, including a failed venture inspired by Dollar Shave Club.

This episode is worth a listen for entrepreneurs inside and outside the crypto space. Corey has learned many lessons at a young age, and he explains them in a clear, engaging way.

We also covered blockchain gaming and the broader crypto landscape. The sector has retraced significantly from its highs, and we discussed how the easy gains of the bull market are gone. Corey offered a blunt assessment of projects that tried to tokenise everything without clear use cases—an approach that looks especially reckless in hindsight.

Corey was deeply involved during the boom and has some compelling stories from that period. Despite launching Pegaxy, the metaverse racing game, only a year ago, the title briefly grew to 500,000 users before the bear market hit.

Now, Corey is focused on building and improving the game, applying the lessons he and his team have learned so far. It was an enjoyable and insightful conversation.
