Kia America Launches Robo Dog NFT Collection

  • Fans of Robo Dog have the opportunity to purchase the NFT series and help raise funds for Petfinder Foundation’s efforts to find homes for animals in need.
  • The NFT is issued on the Tezos blockchain.

Kia America and the NFT marketplace Sweet announced a collaboration that gives fans of Kia’s “Robo Dog” the chance to collect the robotic puppy, with 90% of proceeds directed to support the Petfinder Foundation.

Sweet is a New York–based NFT marketplace used by prominent figures across sports, entertainment, and fashion.

NFTs for a Good Cause

In addition to the initial donation, Petfinder will receive ongoing support through a 10% royalty program on any secondary sales of the Robo Dog NFT.

The initiative aims to help the Petfinder Foundation support animals “to be adopted,” Kia America said in a press release shared with media outlets.

Russell Wager, vice president of marketing at Kia America, noted that the number of pets entering shelters has increased in the past year as more people return to work following the pandemic.

“Although tens of thousands of animals have found their forever homes, pet surrenders are rising as people return to the workplace, and there are many companion animals whose stories deserve the same happy ending as Robo Dog’s in our Super Bowl spot,” he added.

10,000 Robo Dog NFTs as an “Adoption Pass”

Robo Dog is an NFT collection issued by Kia on the Tezos blockchain that starred in the company’s Super Bowl advertisement.

According to the announcement, the NFT series will be released across three distinct collections.

Kia released 10,000 Robo Dog Adoption Pass NFTs, made available for free on February 11. Anyone who successfully claims an Adoption Pass NFT will gain access to a presale for 10,000 generative Robo Dog NFTs, the company said. The presale will take place on February 18 on the Sweet.io platform.

“On February 13, coinciding with the big game, six uniquely artistic Robo Dog NFTs will be offered starting at $299 — the suggested initial retail price for the robotic puppy before it escaped the electronics store. The auction runs through February 18 at 12:00 PM ET,” Kia America added.
